Project Summary

“Measuring Impact: A Patient Engagement in Research Methods Workshop” establishes a community for developing a common framework for engagement impact assessment. The project team seeks to incorporate patient partner experiences, scientific validity, and adaptability to specific project needs, and to promote piloted use of the methodology within this new community. The 1.5-day stakeholder workshop, to be held in Denver on October 27-28, 2016, is being led by the Patient Engagement in Research Scientific Interest Group of the Health Care Systems Research Network, and includes the active participation of five to seven patient stakeholders, and a couple dozen dedicated researchers. The workshop will include expert keynotes and interactive sessions that will build on existing assessment methods, and add in emerging content from a half-day patient-centered research methods workshop held in Atlanta in April. The event represents the preliminary work toward a larger national summit on measurement and impact assessment in patient-engaged research, which the team anticipates offering in the broader research and stakeholder community in late 2017 or early 2018.
