Project Summary

Our PCORI P2P Tier III proposal builds on accomplishments achieved in P2P Tiers I and II. In Tier I, we established the Montana Alzheimer’s/Dementia Work Group, which includes multiple stakeholder organizations and patient partners. Our overarching goal is to improve the care and support to Montanans with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD), their families, and their caregivers. Our work group developed a governance structure and communication plan to assist in the dissemination of our progress and findings. With input from key stakeholders, including caregivers of individuals with ADRD, we identified three comparative effectiveness research (CER) questions that are meaningful to them. In our Tier III project, we plan to select one CER research question and turn it into a CER research proposal. Our patient partners and stakeholders will remain actively engaged in this process.

Deliverables include 1) developing and submitting a letter of intent in response to a broad PCORI funding announcement, 2) developing key sections of a full proposal in preparation for full application submission, 3) strengthening our multi-stakeholder ADRD partnership work group (our patient-centered outcomes research community), 4) maintaining an effective dissemination and implementation process to report progress and findings back to the community, and 5) finding other potential funding resources that can help us expand our efforts in ADRD CER research. To achieve our goals, our project will be co-led by individuals from three different stakeholder sectors: a geriatrician, an ADRD caregiver, and an ADRD researcher.
