Project Summary

In the past year, as a result of Tier I PCORI funding, a 15-member partnership has developed to include patient partners and other stakeholders, such as family members, medical oncologists, and social workers, in establishing a strong collective voice focused on the needs of Hispanic/Latina women experiencing breast health needs and breast cancer in New Mexico. Our Tier I goals have been accomplished with the completion of a partnership mission statement and governance and recruiting strategies documents, and the development of 12 partnership-developed comparative effectiveness research (CER) ideas. We are requesting funding to further enhance this partnership so that we may implement our work plan and continue to strengthen and add partners in the coming grant Tier II period. We are requesting $25,000 in funding from PCORI Tier II to assist with the implementation of monthly partnership and training meetings logistics, stipends, and gas gift cards for patient partners and other key stakeholders to attend meetings. We propose to utilize the 12-month period of this funding initiative to continue to acquire knowledge on CER, and enhance the partnership knowledge on relevant topics, such as evidence-based practices and literature reviews on CER ideas proposed so that, ultimately, we can develop a patient-centered comparative effectiveness research project.
