Pre-diabetes is a high health concern of many Asian Americans in the Greater Boston area. This is supported by several local community health assessments. Additionally, the literature suggests that the prevalence of diabetes is growing faster among Asian Americans than Whites, Blacks, and Hispanics in the United States.
This Tier II project will support the ongoing development of the PEER Diabetes among Vietnamese Americans to address this health disparity. A multi-sectorial group of committed individuals from a variety of backgrounds in the Greater Boston area has been formed, and we plan to further develop our team through the following activities across the Tier II project period:
- Strengthen our governance document based on lessons learned across Tier I.
- Evolve our recruitment plan into a communication plan.
- Take the comparative effectiveness research (CER) ideas established in Tier I and develop those into at least one comprehensive, fundable CER question.
- Expand our network locally, regionally, and nationally.
This opportunity will help us continue to build an infrastructure that supports shared leadership and equal engagement across a wider range of relevant patients and key stakeholders. We believe this is critical to asking and answering questions of central importance to Vietnamese Americans at risk for diabetes.
