Project Summary
Proteomic testing has been proposed for a wide variety of applications, including for determining risk, diagnosis, helping select optimal treatments, and determining response to treatments. In response to increased attention to the potential of proteomic testing, the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) commissioned a narrative review and evidence mapping regarding the application of proteomics in certain cancers and cardiovascular disease. The purpose of this report is to examine the evidence currently supporting approved proteomic tests in the United States for cancer and cardiovascular disease, as well as proteomic tests in these medical fields that may be available in the near term.
This narrative review section of this report focuses on different proteomic applications and the evidence mapping section through systematic search and selection, maps the evidence currently supporting approved proteomic tests in the United States for cancer and cardiovascular disease, as well as those that may be available in the near term.
Narrative Review Report (Published January 2021)
Proteomic testing has been proposed for a wide variety of applications and conditions. This report offers a narrative review and evidence maps for proteomics for cancer and cardiovascular disease.
Issue Brief (Published August 2021)
This issue brief describes proteomic applications currently in use and on the horizon, evidence for proteomics in clinical medicine, and challenges ahead.
About the Emerging Technologies and Therapeutics Reports The Emerging Technologies and Therapeutics Reports provide timely summaries of evidence supporting new drugs, devices, and other healthcare technologies that are recently in use or may be available in the near term in the United States. The documents also identify gaps that need to be addressed for the technologies or therapeutics to move forward. |
