Project Summary
This project is ongoing and does not have results.
PCORI is commissioning a rapid review to assess health equity in studies of social needs interventions. Given the high level of interest in this topic and an urgent need to summarize evidence gaps in the context of disparities widened by the COVID-19 pandemic, PCORI seeks to understand the evidence base on a compressed timeline to inform our future research investments.
In addition to PCORI’s programmatic needs, PCORI aims to support the decisions of social needs intervention implementers, researchers, policy makers, healthcare professionals, and healthcare organizations with timely and high-quality evidence about social needs interventions and health equity.
The goal of the rapid review is to assess the extent to which studies of social needs interventions evaluate differential impact by race and ethnicity, and where evaluated, how the effects of these interventions vary. In addition, for studies where a majority of participants are members of racial and ethnic minority groups, the review will assess the extent to which studies report tailoring recruitment, retention, and interventions to reach historically underserved communities.
