September marks National Suicide Prevention Month, a time to raise awareness about suicide prevention and share messages of hope.
Suicide is the leading cause of death among Alaska Native young people ages 15-24. The PCORI-funded research team in the BeWeL (Because We Love You) Study is now recruiting participants to determine whether use of a tailored program with a discussion of social networks is more beneficial to reduce risk for suicide and alcohol use and improve mental health among this community than support without the tailored program.
A short film, below, produced by the study team is being distributed to medical professionals in Alaska, encouraging them to refer young people who are at risk for suicide to the BeWeL program. The video recently won two Telly awards and three DotCOMM platinum awards.
