Patient-Centered Value in Health and Health Care
Patients are the ultimate recipients of health care—and their experiences, goals, and expectations matter. Incorporating factors such as patient engagement, patient-important impacts, patient-driven outcome measures, equity, and transparency into approaches to value are essential to improving the outcomes and experiences of patients in the healthcare system.
To foster greater understanding between and among patients, caregivers and the broader healthcare community around "value" in health and health care and how the communities PCORI serves define "patient-centered value," PCORI undertook a series of activities, including a landscape review as well as interviews, focus groups and a convening to garner stakeholder input, culminating with a final report laying out multi-stakeholder, patient-centered, perspectives on value in health and healthcare.
