Medicaid, the state-federal partnership providing health coverage for low-income Americans, is the nation’s largest publicly sponsored health insurer, covering more than 65 million people (Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, 2019). It pays for nearly a fifth of all personal healthcare spending and covers a range of health services, including care for the disabled and long-term and nursing home care.
